Anna Rylova, MD, PhD
Anna Rylova graduated from IM Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy in 2004 with Magna Cum Laude. She went on to become a prominent clinician and researcher.
While relearning medical practice in the U.S., Dr. Rylova began to understand the workings of the American medical system.
She quickly discovered how patients could be trapped in different aspects of its bureaucracy.
She witnessed primary care physicians following corporation metrics rather than concentrating on the real problems patients need to address.
She witnessed patients in the hospital being taken care of by numerous teams of providers who would recommend opposite courses of treatment, or treatments that might improve function of one organ but inadvertently damage others.
She witnessed patients and their families lost in translation of medical documentation.
She witnessed how many patients would have little understanding of the disease, the prognosis and what to prepare for, because the medical system hasn't made it easy for them.
She witnessed patients seen by dozens of medical professionals without anyone really standing by their side, supporting, guiding and speaking to them.

I've been that person for years. Friends, friends of friends, friends of friends of friends who got my phone number from a friend of a friend of a friend. People reach out for medical advice, help, and guidance.
In my professional life, I am this "go to" person, too. Nurses and residents remember clinical cases we had together years ago and often tell me: "You have a special way of explaining things that makes it easy to understand." I like when residents say: "during one night with you I learned more than in months of residency."
I learned to teach and I learned to listen. I hear patients, nurses, trainees, and I hope to be able to offer sage advice for those who seek it.
